            If Serotonin, the multi-talented factor in our body is vital to our mood, and it is (science says so), then it is safe to say, as a complex human being operating in this fast-moving world, it is important we take care of our Serotonin levels.  Wouldn’t you agree? 

Our overall mood in our daily matters can determine how our lives pan out.  Now, that’s power we have control over.  What does your overall mood say about you?  Are you easy to work with?  Do people enjoy collaborating with you?  Are you a good partner in a relationship?  Basically, it’s the happy healthy ones that seem to have the most positive impact in the workplace and even at home.  Ask yourself, the life I am living, is it a good experience or a bad one?

            Serotonin can be defined as a chemical within the body. Some say it is a hormone and some say it’s a neurotransmitter.  It is better known as the ‘happy chemical’.  Either way, this magical little unicorn can either help makes us Hero’s or Zero’s.  And I don’t know about you, but I would like my body, my overall vibe saying to the world, “I am a well human and I love living!”  That kind of energy is contagious, opening creative doors and welcoming people of like mindedness.

            Serotonin resides in our intestines (the gut), the brain and the blood platelets.  It is thought to play a role in appetite, the emotions, and motor, cognitive, and autonomic functions. Meaning, our overall functions from our feelings, our functional movements, and our organ functions. 

            Sooo… yeah, Serotonin is kind of a big deal.  You ask, “So how can we take care of this magical little unicorn called Serotonin?”

            Since the majority of Serotonin resides in the gut, our digestive system, then it is pretty obvious that as long as we take care of our gut, we can bet Serotonin is dancing happily throughout our body, doing its job superbly.  How do you take care of your gut?

            Easy.  So freakin’ easy that its mind blowing, yet 70% of folks in our nation, can’t seem to figure it out.

            ELIMINATE INFLAMMATION WITHIN THE GUT!!

            If your gut is inflamed, then the rest of your body will become inflamed (if it’s not already).  You’ll know if it is inflamed if:

  • You have excess belly fat
  • Digestive issues
  • Food allergies
  • Skin issues
  • Heart disease

Here are some things you can do immediately to help show your gut some love:

  • Eliminate processed carbohydrates (breads, doughnuts, chips, sugar cereals, candy bars etc.)
  • Eliminate excessive alcohol consumption
  • Eliminate artificial sweeteners (Sweet-n-Low)
  • Drink Natural Spring water
  • Drink Kombucha
  • Eat fermented foods, like Kimchi
  • Probiotic foods like Yogurt (with Live & Active Cultures)
  • Apples
  • Cacao

This is just a quick list, for more options click here. Obviously, if you already have chronic diseases such as, obesity, type II diabetes and heart diseases, then you are way passed minor fixes I mentioned above.  It’s important to seek out help, and get an immediate Nutrition plan that will help turn the tide.  It’s a strong recommendation a full detox takes place followed by a clean eating plan suited best for your needs.  Not only will that help rid your body of toxins but will help for efficient fat-loss which in turn, will help you get away from chronic disease altogether. 

Bottom line, a clean happy gut is ABSOLUTELY VITAL for living a hopeful long happy life.  And the bottom bottom bottom line, by taking care of our gut, we take care of our Serotonin levels.  When we have healthy amounts of Serotonin levels, our overall mood is generally a HAPPY one.  Remember, low levels of serotonin, is linked to depression.  A happy gut, is a happy human.  And our aim in life, is to experience the most joy we can as being a part of the human family. Period.
